Intelligently Engineering Artificial Intelligence Engineering: The Cognitive Architectures Competition
نویسندگان
چکیده
Since the early nineties, interest has been growing in different facets of cognitive architectures and, inspired by advances in AI tools and methodologies, competing proposals have been put forward by various research communities. This gives the task of evaluating the various architectures importance. This paper outlines our proposals for the design and running of a Cognitive Architectures Competition to tackle this issue. Especially, this will involve creating an international community of researchers, developers and users, current and potential, who will have vested interests in the design of the competition. To evaluate entries, the competition’s community will be required to develop a classification of Cognitive Architecture-based systems’ current, and near future, capabilities and their potential range of desirable, practical applications. The community will need to address important technical issues and in doing so will help set a future research and development agenda.

Cognitive Architectures (CAs) are the core of artificial cognitive systems. A CA is supposed to specify the human brain at a level of abstraction suitable for explaining how it achieves the functions of the mind. Over the years a number of distinct CAs have been proposed by different authors and their limitations and potentials were investigated. These CAs are usually classified as symbolic and...

A challenging topic for cognitive ergonomics and cognitive engineering is the development of smart applications and devices which apply some “intelligence” of the situations, i.e. commonsense knowledge about the occupants of the household, their individual and collective routines, and their expected patterns of behavior. Most people spend more time at home than in any other place, including wor...

Cognitive informatics (CI) studies the natural intelligence and internal information processing mechanisms of the brain, as well as the processes involved in perception and cognition. CI provides a coherent set of fundamental theories, and contemporary mathematics, which form the foundation for most information and knowledge-based science and engineering disciplines such as computer science, co...
متن کاملCognitive Architectures and the Construction of Intelligent Agents
A central aim of artificial intelligence and cognitive science is the construction of intelligent agents , which we can define as software artifacts that exhibit intelligent behavior in complex domains over extended periods of time. Intelligent agents can display different levels of functionality, but the long-term goal is to meet or exceed the broad range of capabilities that are found in huma...
